The Adenovirus is a medium sized virus, approximately 90 to 100 nanometers in size. It is non-enveloped, in the sense that its structural chemistry does not posses an outer shell, and it is icosahedral, which is basically just a special word defining the shape of its molecule.Responsible for about 5-10% of all upper respiratory infections in children and some occasional infections in adults as well, this particular virus is primarily spread via respiratory droplets as it has a very prolonged life outside of the body. Occasionally, it can also be spread via fecal routes as well.

Adenoviruses represent the largest nonenveloped viruses. Because of their large size, they are able to be transported through the endosome . The virion also has a unique "spike" or fiber associated with each penton base of the capsid that aids in attachment to the host cell via the coxsackie-adenovirus receptor on the surface of the host cell. In 2010, scientists announced that they had solved the structure of the human adenovirus at the atomic level, making the largest high-resolution model ever. The virus is composed of around 1 million amino acid residues and weighs around 150 MDa.
